Steam Energy or Atomic Energy?

Some pressing questions on the energy issue

Acting on his conviction that humanity had reached the limits of its existence, Rev. A.A. Leenhouts (1915-2001) argues for research into an alternative energy source: steam, generated by solar energy. Besides the urgent need for development of renewable energy, the author draws attention to current and expected water shortages that will deeply impact the poorest nations. The development of small-scale power plants in the form of ‘steam-boiler parks’ could be of vital importance for these populations, when used to desalinate seawater for drinking water and irrigation purposes. In his explanation of the Lord’s Prayer: “Give us today our daily bread”, the author shows that we have a responsibility not only to ourselves, but also towards future generations. He briefly outlines the consequences of the use of nuclear and solar energy. In considering future options in this area, at national as well as international levels, it is our opinion that this proposal deserves attention when alternative forms of energy that do not damage our planet are being explored.
